Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the penultimate issue in the NZ Mints nine coin movie poster series

COINPACKAGING

Star Wars poster coins have been a good seller for the NZ Mint, with early coins seemingly attracting some appreciation on the after market, but The Last Jedi here represents the penultimate movie to get an issue. Only the last in the multi decade spanning series, called Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, remains to come, and that should appear at the end of the year, presumably along with the final coin.

The latest trilogy may have caused some heated discussion amongst fans, but there’s no denying the visual look of the movies is pretty phenomenal. This latest poster coin is a reproduction of a brilliant original piece of art. Plenty of nods to the original movie posters of the 70’s and 80’s, there’s no confusing this as anything other than Star Wars, or with any other Star Wars movie but The Last Jedi.

A rectangular coin of a troy ounce in weight, it comes presented in the excellent acrylic frame that this mint pioneered and which seems to be gaining in popularity. The typical boring obverse of course, not unusual for the Antipodean mints, but other than that, definitely one for the fans. We should see a premium foil version sometime in 2020, but those are about 60% more expensive and not to everyone’s taste.

Available now and shipping very soon, the coin has a 10,000 mintage and an $85.00 launch price.
