Star Wars bullion is back for 2020 with the mysterious bounty hunter, Boba Fett

Star Wars bullion returns for 2020 with a new subject instead of an Imperial character for a change. Boba Fett, the bounty hunter that despite minimal screen time, became one of the most loved characters in the original trilogy. The new hit TV series called ‘The Mandalorian’ is a result of Boba’s influence as he became a much larger part of Star Wars canon as the movies kept coming.

The design style of the series remains intact, although with more detail than ever, and it’s one we like immensely, eschewing the usual look for a bas-relief stylised type of art. The pose is very well chosen and this is instantly one of our favourites in this series. As you would expect, the obverse is a simple effigy of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by the inscribed issue details. We’d like to see some customisation on this face, which is something increasingly common on Niue releases, but it’s a minor quibble on a bullion coin.

Two variants again, both a troy ounce in weight. A 0.9999 gold and a 0.999 silver make up the offerings. The former is sold encapsulated and has a mintage of just 1,000 pieces. The latter can be bought individually, in tubes of 25, or in a themed monster box containing ten tubes of 25. Fairly typical stuff for buyers of previous coins.

We’ve added this one to our Bullion Profile of the series, which you can see HERE. Available shortly, we think this is a fine addition to the range, and hopefully, we’ll see more variety in the subjects chosen moving forward. Here’s waiting for Baby Yoda…

BOBA FETT

Mysterious bounty hunter and one of the most feared beings in the galaxy, Boba Fett was a clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, made at Jango’s instruction and raised as his son. After witnessing his ‘fathers’ death at the hands of the Jedi Master Mace Windu, he trained in his footsteps as a bounty hunter.

Taking on commissions for Darth Vader, Fett tracked Hans Solo’s ship, the Millennium Falcon, to Cloud City where Vader captured him. After being interrogated and frozen in carbonite, Solo is turned over to Boba Fett so that Fett can claim the bounty on him from the criminal overlord, Jabba the Hutt.

After an attempted rescue of Solo by the Rebellion, he travels on Jabba’s sail barge to the Great Pit of Carkoon, home of the Sarlacc, where the prisoners are to be executed. When the prisoners mount an escape he attempts to intervene, and ends up in a tussle with Luke Skywalker, but Solo accidentally ignites Fett’s rocket pack, sending the bounty hunter falling into the Sarlacc’s mouth.

Dressed in his trademark Mandalorian armour, Fett has become of the the most loved and iconic of all the characters in the Star Wars universe.
