Seasons Change into summer for the iconic kangaroo on the third of the silver coin series

A regular appearance on the numismatic calendar for over two decades, the Royal Australian Mint’s (RAM) Kangaroo Series is a popular premium silver coin series. While fellow Australian coin producer the Perth Mint uses the kangaroo extensively in its varied bullion programmes, the RAM keeps this iconic Antipodean creature for better things.

Depicting the life of the kangaroo through the four seasons, this four-coin sub-set is now on its third issue. Following winter and spring, summer sees a pair of kangaroos finding shade from the hot sun. Done in a realistic style by regular subset artist Stevan Stojanovic, it’s a fitting continuation of the series. As you’d expect from an Australian coin, the obverse has an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on it, surrounded by the various inscriptions.

Both proof ($100 AUD) and frosted-uncirculated ($80) versions are on offer, each with a mintage of 5,000 pieces. The difference in price also gets you a proper coin box and outer shipper on the proof coin – the frosted variant making do with being mounted into an attractive themed card. It’s a straight choice as the two coins are otherwise identical at an ounce of fine-silver in weight. A nice addition to a popular series, both variants are available to order now.
