Saint Lucian Flamingo entrant in Scottsdale’s EC8 2019 series arrives in superb proof form

The good news is that Scottsdale Mint’s Eastern Caribbean 8 (EC8) series is coming back in 2020 for its third annual run through the eight nations in the programme, but what we’re looking at here is the last issue in the 2019 sequence. Not the bullion coin itself, which we’ve covered previously, but the coloured proof variants which have been following along behind for the last few issues.

Some of the designs in this series do actually take the colour application very well, although we’ve never been fans here of coloured gold coins as the colour gets lost in the non-neutral background metal. Fortunately, there are no such issues here and this is easily our favourite of the 2019 coins, edging out even the Anguillian Lobster, and the Grenadian Diving designs. Ironically, the Saint Lucian coloured coin was our favourite of the 2018 series as well, so perhaps we just like flamingos…

Available as 1oz coins with a 2,500 mintage for the silver, and 500 for the gold. Unlike the bullion coins, these come boxed with a certificate, and in a themed outer shipper. You can read more about the whole EC8 programme in our expansive two-page profile. The guide will be updated with the 2020 coins as the year progresses.
