Round 2! Fight! Chun-Li is the second iconic Street Fighter character in LPM’s videogame-inspired bullion coin series

Last November, we were impressed by the first in LPM’s new Street Fighter bullion coin series, Ryu. Rather than reproduce the pixel-art of the games, they featured realistic portrayals of the character, and did so with great success. The second coin has launched today, and it’s another excellent homage to one of the highest grossing gaming franchises of all time. How much? In excess of $12 billion!! Popular is an understatement.

Having a massive cast of characters, LPM have plenty of choice for their bullion coins, but they’re sensibly sticking with the most iconic of the fighters, encompassing those that have been part of the franchise for most of its 30-year history. Chun-Li is, without question, the most popular female character in the franchise, having now iconic looks, and a good set of ‘moves’.

The artwork is superb. A classic pose, well rendered, and well-placed on the coin, should keep fans very happy. The style of art continues that debuted on the Ryu coin, and if maintained, will make this a fine collection for the coin-collecting player. There are some amazingly unique and flamboyant fighters in the series, so it certainly won’t be boring. Sadly, the obverse is a bog-standard effigy of Chun-Liz, the WIndsor Warrioress (special move is a smack in the face with her handbag)…

The commonest format is the one-ounce silver, with a mintage of 15,000 pieces, and comes encapsulated. The coloured coin, our favourite, surprisingly, has a mintage of just 5,000 pieces, of which 1,000 will be mounted to a themed blistercard. Finally, there’s a cleanly struck, one-ounce gold version, capped at just 100 units, which comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. LPM have been doing a great job with the franchise, with this range our top pick, followed by the Mini-Fighters for something a little unusual. Chun-Li should be available to order later today.
