Riker and Worf join Picard in Niue’s Star Trek Next Generation character foil set

The second and third foils in the New Zealand Mints six-piece set of Star Trek: Next Generation character foils are now available. Following the debut of Captain Jean-Luc Picard just last month, Commander Riker and the Klingon Security Chief, Worf, are the subjects this time, with just Troi, Data and Geordi LaForge yet to come.

At 5 grams in weight, these are much more affordable than the premium foil range is, and the aspect ratio matches a banknote, rather than the portrait style of the bigger issues. These are bright and colourful issues, designed to appeal to the wider collectable market rather than just coin/banknote collectors, and these do a good job of waving the flag in that respect.

Unlike the Picard foil, these pair come in a paper sleeve and are designed to sit in the album given away free with the first release. The album isn’t available anywhere else, but they’re genuinely of a good quality and a fine way to collate a set, if that’s your intention. The mint has issued several similar sets encompassing Star Trek and Star Wars, along with a Justice League movie range. You can see more of these on our Foil Series Profile page. Retailing for $39.00 USD each, they can be purchased at dealers worldwide, and have a mintage of 10,000 each.
