Royal Canadian Mint outs the NZ Mints next three Warriors of History coins

One of our favourite series of the last few months has been the New Zealand Mint’s Warriors of History coins. Struck in silver, antique-finished and with selective colouring, there have been two releases to date. With a third coin not due until the end of the month, it came as some surprise to see the first five coins appear at the Royal Canadian Mints webstore last week.

We’ve already covered the first two coins, Samurai, and the Vikings, the third coin is to be the Spartans, the fourth the Knights Templar, and the fifth the Romans. These next three coins follow the style of the debut pair very closely, a good thing as they’re very well done. We’ve noted before that the coins have a lot in common with one of our all-time favourite series, History of the Crusades by Numiscollect. The main difference is the colouring of the main character. We found this a touch intense on the coin we saw, but still an extremely nice piece of work.

Packaging is great on these, an enhanced variant of the book-style design that debuted with the Shakespeare coin from a couple of years ago, of a nice weight, and customised for each coin. The recommended price is $85.00 USD, but the RCM is only selling them as a subscription at $109.95 CAD each, you have to sign up for the five. It’s likely that the NZ Mint will ship them first in most cases (certainly the first three at least), so how you get them is open to choice, but they’re fine designs for the military or historical coin collector.
