Struck by The Perth Mint from 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, the series comprises a 2oz high relief coin, a 1oz high relief coin, a 1/4oz coin, and a 1/10oz coin. The Perth Mint is pleased to present the iconic Australian Koala Gold Coin Series, featuring one of Australia’s most loved marsupials. The koala is well-adapted to Australia’s dry conditions as they do not actually require water to drink. Receiving all the moisture they need from eucalyptus leaves, koalas spend most of their time in these trees for this reason, and because they are known to sleep among the shaded branches for up to 20 hours each day.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Perth Mint will release no more than 500 of the 2015 Australian Koala 1 Kilo Silver Proof Coin.

2015 ANTARCTIC TERRITORY: ELEPHANT SEAL

The twelfth coin from this amazingly popular series is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality and features the Elephant Seal. The Southern Elephant Seal is the largest seal in the world and the largest member of the order Carnivora, which includes all seals, cats and dogs, raccoons and foxes, wolves and hyenas, bears, and weasels and civets, among others.

The male Elephant Seal can grow to more than six metres in length and weigh up to 4,000 kilograms. This species of seal takes its name from its great size and the large proboscis of the adult male, a trunk-like, inflatable snout which is used to make extraordinarily loud roaring noises, especially during the mating season.
