APMEX has announced the immediate availability of the second in the Perth Mint’s silver half-ounce Shark series of bullion coins. Carrying on with the same specification as last years Great White Shark coin, this years coin depicts the Hammerhead Shark, another of the huge apex predators that inhabit the worlds oceans.
Perth Mint designer Natasha Muhl has again done the honours here and it remains a nice, clean design, in keeping with last years debut. The coin takes an Airtite capsule of size: 32 mm Air-Tite Holder w/ Black Gasket. It’s available individually, in tubes of 25, or in a 500-coin monster box. It’s up for sale on the APMEX site already. At a half-ounce in weight it’s critical to the coins success that the premium is tightly controlled and with premiums as low as $2.29 over spot, that’s certainly the case.
MINTS DESCRIPTION
It is dusk, and the great hammerhead shark scours the sea floor for its next meal. This solitary predator is different from other sharks. The great hammerhead shark’s uniquely hammer-shaped head and sickle-shaped dorsal fin is recognized worldwide. Seeing this image in person is fascinating enough, but seeing hundreds of great hammerhead sharks migrating up the coastlines is a sight to behold. We have marveled at the sight of this oddly shaped shark for centuries. This intriguingly shaped shark is why the design of the 1/2 oz Silver Great Hammerhead Shark coin has been created by the Perth Mint.
We have received these Silver coins as an APMEXclusive® from the Perth Mint, which means you will be unable to get this beautiful design anywhere else. This exclusivity, combined with a strictly low mintage, adds an aspect of collectibility to these low premium Silver coins.
The magnificent great hammerhead shark is the largest species of hammerhead, growing up to 20 feet in length. On average they are around 11 feet long and weigh 500 pounds. They can be distinguished from other shark species by the shape of their head and the tall, curved first dorsal fin.
DESIGN: The coin’s eye-catching design is a true compliment to the series. The reverse design features the iconic beast navigating through the ocean in great detail. Struck from .999 fine Silver the coin also displays The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark, along with the 2015 date and Silver weight and purity. The coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
