Pegasus joins the Griffin and the Chimera in Numiscollect’s high-relief ‘Mythical Creatures’ lineup of silver coins

It was way back in 2018 that Numiscollect debuted its own ‘Mythical Creatures’ range of silver coins, employing Smartminted high-relief to bring these legendary beasts of old to life. There were two issues that year, the Griffin, and the Chimera, but nothing since, until now. Pegasus is the third in this series of silver coins, and is clearly cut from the same cloth.

There’s a distinct style to these, highlighted by the way the wings of these beasts arcs around to follow the edge of the coin, and Pegasus is no exception to that. Despite the long gap in releases, Numiscollect have kept the series DNA intact. It’s a nice image of the winged horse, and it keeps the stylised ground underfoot that was present on the 2018 issues. The obverse continues to carry the national coat of arms of Tanzania.

There is one big difference with Pegasus, however. Those 2018 coins each weighed in at two-ounces, but the employment of the latest iteration of Smartminting has meant the same levels of relief and diameter are now possible with less metal – half as much, in fact. So, at just an ounce in weight, we have an eminently more affordable coin than before. We’re fans of this idea, because the actual metal content is far less important on a numismatic release than it is for a bullion one, where metal content is king. The coin comes boxed with a COA, and is available to order now.
