Numiscollect employs artificial intelligence in its humorous, ten-coin look at cats and dogs replacing humans in everyday life

The last couple of years has seen a revolution in the way that Generative Artificial Intelligence has permeated the internet. This isn’t sentience, to be clear, with AI in its current form relatively simplistic, and limited in what it can do, but its effects are being felt everywhere, it seems. From nowhere, it’s started being used to create text and imagery for a myriad of uses, and one of those uses appears to be coins.

Numiscollect have debuted a collection of ten designs created using AI generated images, all with a consistent theme. Rather than just colour an existing bullion coin, these are properly unique issues. The ten designs in this collection have a common border with a ‘digital-style’ pattern and title. Likewise, the common obverse has a large themed border full of cats and dogs. While AI is often associated with lazy design, that certainly isn’t the case here.

The main attraction is the central coloured artwork on the reverse face. There are five cat coins, and five dog coins, each depicting an animal in a human role, and each AI generated. We have to admit, some of them are quite superb, and sure to have a lot of appeal to the legions of pet-lovers around the world. That appeal is enhanced by a mintage of just 199 pieces for each design, very low for a one-ounce coloured silver coin, and packaging that looks well done, This is touted as the first in the AI-nimals series, so it will be interesting to see where this goes.
