The New Zealand Mints ‘Disney Princesses’ series reaches its ninth release, this time depicting the star of the 2012 hit movie Brave.  The first coin debuted back in January 2015 featuring Cinderella, the second coin depicted Aurora, from Sleeping Beauty, the third Princess Aurora from The Little Mermaid, the fourth Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast, the fifth Jasmine from Aladdin, the sixth Snow White,  the seventh Tiana from the Princess and the Frog, and the one before this, Rapunzel. What’s next? We’ll have details of the next coin up on 25th April.

This series is certainly aimed at the Disney fan rather than at the hard-core coin collector, and having now reached its ninth release with a tenth on the way, we have to give credit where it’s due and say these were a good release for the New Zealand Mint.

Merida is the strong and independent key character of the Disney Pixar animated feature film, Brave (2012). Freedom-loving Merida has no interest in behaving like a “prim and proper princess,” or in choosing a suitor. She’s just not ready yet! Angry at her mother, Queen Elinor, Merida wishes she would change. The wish backfires when Elinor transforms into a bear. Now Merida must use all her courage to restore her mother to human form and repair their bond of love. It takes a brave heart, and a bold spirit, but Merida is rich in both.
