LPM’s second ‘Australia’s Most Dangerous’ series returns in five-ounce bullion, and one-ounce colored proof forms

While the third coin in this neat bullion series produced by the Royal Australian Mint, and distributed by LPM, debuted last September, this series has a habit of issuing the one-ounce gold and silver variants first, followed a year or so later by a five-ounce silver, and a proof. Such is the case with this latest release, the second wave of Great White Shark formats, the second design in the series.

The five-ounce bullion coin is exactly as you’d expect, taking the same design present on the 40 mm diameter coin, and reproducing it on a larger 65.1 mm diameter disc. There’s only a render at present, so how well it scales up will remain to be seen, but it was a good original design, and the size growth is hardly excessive. Just 1,000 pieces will be minted.

Also appearing is a coin for the more numismatically minded collector, rocking an identical 1,000 mintage. Again, this one-ounce proof coin carries the same basic design, but apart from being struck to a higher standard, also has a dynamic colour application. Whatever your opinion on coloured coins, this one is very sympathetic to the original design, not detracting from it. As you’d expect, the proof coin comes boxed with a Certificate of Authenticity. Both are available now.
