EC8 bullion coin programme treks the azure waters to St Kitts & Nevis for the second year

The second cycle of Scottsdale Mint’s excellent EC8 bullion coin programme continues apace with the second issue of 2019. Like the Antigua & Barbuda Rum Runner coin, this takes exactly the same theme as last years debut, but has a whole new reverse face design. This St Kitts & Nevis release in 2018 featured the Brown Pelican bird as its subject.

Last year had a pretty cool picture of a pelican in flight, but this one is a little more personal to the island with a view of the bird resting in a harbour. It’s a nice scene and one that evokes the Caribbean island life more than a bird in flight ever will. The common obverse is unchanged from last year and is the same across all four variants. All of the these small island nations share a currency and a central bank. The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) is the official issuer of the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, which is legal tender in the territories of all eight members.

The usual formats on offer, all four of which are an ounce in weight. Gold and silver bullion variants, and gold and silver proof coins with partial colouring. The latter are neatly boxed with a certificate of authenticity, while bullion variants ship in capsules, on customized Scottsdale Mint branded skin boards of five in the case of the silver, and in Scottsdale Mint’s Certi-Lock® packaging in the case of the gold.

Yet to come are Anguilla, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent & the Grenadines.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

Scottsdale Mint, in partnership with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), is pleased to continue the EC8 program with the release of the second issue of the “Brown Pelican” from St. Kitts and Nevis.  Manufactured and distributed by Scottsdale Mint, each coin is struck in .999+ silver and .9999+ gold and weighs one troy ounce.

The silver “Brown Pelican” BU coins will ship in capsules on Scottsdale Mint skin boards of five (5) coins. The gold “Brown Pelican” BU coins will ship in Scottsdale Mint’s Certi-Lock® packaging.  The silver color commemorative and gold color commemorative “Rum Runner” coins will ship in capsules inside custom boxes.

The 2019 ECCB St. Kitts & Nevis coin depicts the national bird, the Brown Pelican, sitting on a buoy with boats in the distance. The Brown Pelican is an elegant bird with an over-sized bill and large body. The national bird feeds by “plunge-diving” from as high as 65 feet, using the force of the impact to stun fish before scooping them into its bill.

When young, the Brown Pelican is brown on the head, neck, and upper torso of the body, while white below. As it matures, the body becomes dark brown while the head turns white.
