JVP’s Liberator proof and bullion round returns, and it’s sporting a new background field
JVP Mint is back with the sharp looking ‘Liberator’ bullion round range that debuted last year. Sporting a ‘Punisher’-style skull with a background field covered in barb-wire, it was a striking piece, clean and free of distraction. The obverse was excellent, mimicking the style of the heraldic bird on the American Silver Eagle with their own interpretation, clad in a breastplate, and with wings formed from guns.
The 2022 issue sports fundamentally the same layout, but like Scottsdale Mint does with some of their annual issues, JVP has completely changed the background field design. The end result is more than different enough to make this an attractive buy for collectors that have the original. The barb-wire background was a subtle, repeating one, but for 2022, the prison bars are considerably more prominent.
Last year saw the one-ounce silver bullion coin launch first, with the variants following on later, but JVP are making the full standard five-coin range available at launch. So, along with the base coin will come a kilo bullion version, and a pair of proof coins, one an ounce in weight, the other a piedfort (double thickness) of two ounces. Best of all, there’s a 1 gram minigold that should realise the design well, as it’s like a minigold piedfort, using the extra weight for thickness.
Yet to come are a selection of four proof silver modded coins with sterling silver inlays. The 2021 had red inset eyes and plating, so we’re quite eager to see what these will look like. In the meantime, this second Liberator release should keep you engaged, and it should be available to order shortly. Fortunately, despite the faux denomination, you won’t have to buy them with souls…
