Exclusive preview: Coins Today is back with a new silver stacker and this time it’s the Archangel Michael in battle with Satan

If it wasn’t plainly obvious from the unique Doggaebi Shield released in April of this year, Coins Today seems to have quite the knack when it comes to stackable silver rounds. This was further enhanced just a few months later with a very different piece, packed with detail, called Achilles Shield. Both of these later received larger, one-kilogram versions. Now, the Korean producer has managed to get a third issue in before the hell that is 2021 finally ends.

Continuing with the shield theme, we leave the old religions for the monotheistic Abrahamic beliefs. The Archangel Michael, considered the most powerful of them all, is famed for defeating Satan in the war between angels, as described in the New Testament Book of Revelation, and he is most often depicted in that great battle. Coins Today have chosen this pivotal moment to adorn their latest shield, called the Shield of St. Michael Silver Stacker.

The design leans more towards the high-relief of the Doggaebi than the fine detail of Achilles, but this is a fine amalgamation of the two styles. It’s a classic interpretation of this religious event, with hints of the style used in Eastern European art, perhaps. Suffice to say, you’ll find the scene instantly identifiable if you’re a religious person from one of the three major religions that have this story in their canon.

As a stacker, the incuse version of this artwork is struck into the obverse face, allowing them to ‘stack’ tightly. You can see this best in the video below. It’s an interesting concept, made popular a few years ago by Scottsdale Mint with their now iconic ‘Stacker’, but not really tackled by anyone else until Coins Today applied their expertise to it. This is another impressive piece, and having seen the first two in hand, we don’t expect the quality of Saint Michael to disappoint. Just the two ounce version is available now, but as Doggaebi and Achilles both later got kilo siblings, we’d be surprised if that wasn’t the case again. An impressive, original release, it should be available to order shortly.
