” I am the Great Cornholio, I need T.P. for my bunghole”. Beavis & Butthead Do Numismatics…

South Park, Family Guy, Archer, and Rick & Morty, are all proof it isn’t just kids that can have some fun with animated TV shows. Crude, crass, and often very cutting with current affairs, and societal issues, they’re brilliantly funny, and hugely popular. One of the first of them, debuting 30 years ago, was Beavis & Butthead, the creation of Mike Judge, also responsible for the cult classic, King of the Hill.

Now, Beavis & Butthead were a little different. It’s a simpler, but no less cutting, body of work, garnering much acclaim for its look at popular culture. It’s basically about a couple of dumb, lazy, teenage losers who love heavy metal and hard rock, and running on MTV, it included lots of music. The series ran from 1993 to 1997, with an eighth season in 2011, and a ninth in 2022. There were also two movies.

The Coin Company likes to issue shaped coins for television and movie franchises, with Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, ET, and Shrek, all receiving numismatic homages. Now, our eponymous animated dimwits also get their own coins, with the debut of a pair of one-ounce silver offerings. The coins are simple enough, and perfectly realised. There’s little chance the B&B fan won’t lap these up. Issued for Niue, they’re a good size, reaching out to around 80 mm in height, and look coloured to perfection.

Each coin is presented in themed packaging, and has a mintage of just 1,000 pieces each. In the words of the great philosopher, Butt-head, ‘I don’t like stuff that sucks.’ These coins definitely don’t suck. Available now. South Park next, please.
