At long last, the New Zealand Mints widely liked Feng Shui series of coins has reached parity between the gold and silver versions. After starting as a coloured silver coin series, the popularity of the uncoloured ¼oz gold format led the mint to start releasing gold versions a couple of years later, starting back in April 2014 with the Koi. Following the Koi came the Cranes, the Horsesthe Elephant and the Phoenix. That left just the relatively recent silver Dragon as the only coin in the series without a golden brother. Not any longer as the NZM has taken the entirely expected step of bringing them level, we’d imagine with the aim of launching future coins in the series simultaneously.

No changes to the excellent packaging, a wooden box the NZ Mint use for almost all their gold launches, even if it is for a licenced property like Star Wars. We still prefer the beautiful lacquered boxes the NZM has used for the silver coins, but these are no low quality substitute. Again limited to just 888 pieces, the number eight being considered lucky in Chinese culture, the coin has unfortunately stayed with the price rise from $550.00 USD to $630.00, but with the NZ dollar being all over the place, it’s hardly surprising. The design again seems to work better in gold than in silver, and with the added bonus that the unwelcome crystal from the silver version has not made the transition. This series has always looked great in the flesh, far better than the images, and we’d always recommend a look at one. You’ll probably want one. Available to order from the New Zealand Mint website now, it will also be available from their multiple dealers worldwide. We’ll likely take the time to knock up a coin series profile of the range in the near future.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

Dragons are considered powerful protectors in Feng Shui culture creating peace and bringing good fortune into the home and workplace.

The strong yang, or male energy, makes the Dragon an auspicious symbol of great honour. As an icon of strength and protection, it keeps one from harm and is a powerful gift to a loved one. When paired with a Phoenix, which represents yin or female energy, an ultimate balance is formed.

REVERSE: This features an image of Dragon reaching for a precious stone, powerfully symbolizing wealth and an abundance of opportunities. Around this, Cherry Blossoms are engraved against a proof quality polished background.

OBVERSE: This features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

PACKAGING: The Feng Shui Dragon 1/4 oz 9999 Fine Gold coin is displayed inside a classic wooden inner coin case, which sits inside a themed outer box. The packaging makes this an ideal gift item. The Certificate of Authenticity sits within the coin case.
