The New Zealand Mints ‘Disney Princesses’ series powers on to its eighth release with the classic Rapunzel. The first coin debuted back in January featuring Cinderella, the second coin depicted Aurora, from Sleeping Beauty, the third Princess Aurora from The Little Mermaid, the fourth Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast, the fifth Jasmine from Aladdin, the sixth Snow White, and the last Tiana from the Princess and the Frog. What’s next?  We’ve been suggesting that Elsa from Frozen would’ve been a good early release given the staggering popularity of Frozen merchandise, and news that a second movie is on its way for early 2018 (tentative date), would give that more reason to be than ever.

No change to the two formats being offered, a 1oz coloured proof silver and a ¼oz proof gold, so clearly these are working well for the New Zealand Mint.   They used them for the six-coin Mickey and Friends set, and the highly regarded ‘Classic Disney’ coins like , ‘Steamboat Willie’, and Donald Ducks 80th Anniversary.

We say this every time, but these are aimed more at the gift/Disney memorabilia market than at coin collectors and the fact we’re already at eight releases seems to prove the market is healthy. The gold coins do look better in the hand. The silver are standard fare for this format, so common with this mint, along with Perth, who strike them. Available now from the NZ Mints website, although the Perth Mint distribute and sell these in Australia, and dealers worldwide will have them also.
