Disney Classic returns with a homage to Mickey’s Mrs, Minnie Mouse, in gold and silver
Mickey Mouse, since his very first outing on the silver screen, has had a girlfriend. Minnie has accompanied the iconic rodent on his adventures for over 90 years since, and has appeared several times in the past in the New Zealand Mints copious selection of collectible gold and silver coins.
This time out, she’s getting a range of coins of her own, comprising a 1oz proof silver, and a 1oz and 1/4oz gold. All feature the same design depicting Minnie in her polka-dot dress and winking at the viewer. It’s an instantly recognisable piece clearly aimed at the fan, and ties in well with the Disney Classic range that was the flagship for the mints franchise for a few years.
Packaging comprises a wooden box with a certificate of authenticity within. A neat outer shipper wraps it all up and is pretty much the same between all variants. Mintages are familiar at 10,000 for the silver ($80 USD), 1,000 for the smaller of the two golds ($700 USD), and 500 for the bigger gold ($2,700 USD). A release with obvious appeal to the collector of Disney memorabilia.
Minnie Mouse is the stylish, lifelong sweetheart of Mickey Mouse. Wearing her iconic red polka dot dress, Minnie’s personality has delighted generations of fans across all cultures. Mickey’s leading lady first appeared in the ground breaking 1928 short film Steamboat Willie. When a goat inconveniently eats her sheet music, Minnie resourcefully turns the goat’s tail to generate music, demonstrating her spirited and lovable nature.
Minnie has appeared in over 70 cartoons, many of which also feature Mickey Mouse, Pluto and her close friend Daisy Duck. She has two nieces, Millie and Melody. With a history spanning over 85 years, Minnie shines as a star in her own right.
