Coin’s Today the Armadillo Lizard, and the Eternal Flame to its swelling range of stackable silver bullion

South Korean producer, Coin’s Today, continues its accelerated release program for stackable silver bullion with the launch of another pair of designs. It’s hard to keep up with them all, but it does mean that there’s something in the range for almost all tastes. This pair is definitely more unusual than most, especially the lizard design, so it’s great to see the producer take risks by experimenting with something different. Both should be available to order now.

The first design is a very unusual one, and depicts an Armadillo Girdled Lizard (Ouroborus cataphractus). If you can tell from its Latin name, Ouroburus, it has the cute habit of holding the tip of its own tail to form a circle, when threatened, like the ancient legend with the same name. That’s exactly what is depicted on this issue, except the lizard resides in a pair of cupped human hands.

It’s antique-finished, the norm for most of these stackable releases, and this time, it has a capped mintage at just 20,000 units. In another break from the norm, and much to our surprise given its high-relief and complexity, this is a one-ounce piece, half the usual weight. Quite extraordinary. It is supplied encapsulated.

The second release is a play on the Eternal Flame concept. Shaped like a flame, it’s decorated-with four mythical gods or creatures, Hestia, Agni, a Phoenix, and a dragon. Each of the characters is set within a part of the flame, delineated by a raised border. In the centre is a further raised small flame symbol.

An impressive design, with lots of high-relief, it’s antique-finished, and supplied encapsulated. A mintage of just 15,000 is an interesting change from the usual unlimited, and may mark a change due to the increased number of new designs the producer is putting out there.
