CIT Winter Launch Day: Tiffany Art is back in style with a new focus on the great cities, starting with Paris
One of the all-time giants of the modern numismatic world, Tiffany Art recently wrapped up its long journey through the world’s architectural styles, but it’s already back with a new style and a new focus. Called Metropolis: Paris, this debut issue takes a perspective map of the Parisian centre, highlighting the most famous of its sites, while running through the reverse is a Tiffany glass representation of the River Seine. Unlike the earlier series, the glass does not pass through the whole coin.
The obverse chooses a single structure, the elegant Pont Alexandre III bridge, for a fully smartminted depiction, with barely a single piece of space on this face not replete with fine detail. All told, quite a different approach to the same basic subject. Time will tell if it becomes as loved and sought after as the original series, but it looks off to a good start. We’ll reserve opinion until a few of them are out, as we were huge admirers of the originals.
Two proof silver formats on offer with the same design. Previous Tiffany buyers will note the 3 oz coin is an ounce bigger than the old baseline, and with the same mintage, but the kilo variant that debuted mid-way through the first series, is here from the off and in some terrific presentation. We can see buyers of this one choosing to actually display it for the first time, although there will be at most, 99 of them.
