Cayman Islands Marlin bullion coin back unchanged for 2018 but with a gold version in tow
Scottsdale Mint continues to expand its range of legal tender bullion coins with a reissue of the Cayman Islands Marlin silver bullion coin from 2017. No changes to the design from last years coin, but for the first time a gold variant is added the line-up, joinng such other recent gold additions as the Deathstalker Scorpion and the Barbados Trident.
It was a nice design last year and remains such in 2018. The mintage of 50,000 for the silver is quite typical for Scottsdale, as is the 10,000 number assigned to the gold, although in that case there have been rarer issues lately. Clearly a hit for Scottsdale, the coin is available to order now. Gold coins come in the mints custom Certi-Lock proprietary security packaging while the silver coins are encapsulated. Prices should be competitive with other bullion coins as these don’t carry an excessively large premium given the limited mintage in comparison to the ubiquitous Maple Leaf, for example.

Too bad they did not change the design. I agree it was beautiful but for me as a collector I want changing designs … So I ll pass on this series …
I totally understand that. I’ve always preferred alternating designs over fixed. Hopefully, they’ll be a change next year now that there’s a gold and silver coin.
Sometimes it makes sense to change the design each year and while I enjoy those evolving series my personal take is this marlin could end up being Iconic.
Gorgeous look and with the Cayman’s being one of the wealthiest banking countries in the world this has a strong backing.
I didn’t get any of the 17 Silver ones until I saw this article and now own quite a few of both years in Silver. Saving up to get some in Gold shortly.
Quite right Patrick. There’s plenty of choice out there and lots of room for changing and fixed designs to exist simultaneously.
How do I order a gold coin???
