APMEX extends its Caribbean Seahorse limited mintage bullion coin series with a fourth annual release

One of two Seahorse themed bullion coin series on the market today – the other being the Samoan Seahorse from Scottsdale – the Caribbean Seahorse series from APMEX has carved itself out a niche in the highly competitive limited mintage bullion coin market. It’s done that with a combination of tight mintages, and more importantly, a unique and attractive visual style.

The latest coin, the fourth since the 2018 debut, is possibly the best looking yet and a fine looking piece in its own right. Depicting a pair of these most unusual of marine animals, they’re placed to create a sense of layered depth, enhanced by ‘bubbles’ and flora. It’s a far better piece of work than last years design, and an improvement on the similar look of the 2019 issue.

The obverse of the coin carries the national coat of arms of Barbados, one that actually complements the reverse face subject matter perfectly. It’s a little disappointing that they felt the need to inscribe the coin composition on both faces. There’s plenty of room on the obverse, so its inclusion on the reverse face seems a little superfluous.

Two formats make up this series, chief amongst them the hugely popular one ounce fine silver. This has a mintage of just 10,000 pieces and is supplied encapsulated. Also available at the same weight, is a 0.999 gold version, which comes boxed with a Certificate of Authenticity. Both are struck to a brilliant uncirculated finish. A very pretty pair of coins with small mintages. If the premiums are good, these look a great buy. Available to order now with shipping from the first week of April.
