Allcollect goes big with its latest one-kilo silver coin highlighting mans impact on nature in the modern world

It’s a sad fact of life that the proliferation of humanity across the globe has had a detrimental effect on our planets other inhabitants. Sometimes through ignorance, often through corporate greed, but also from our need to feed ourselves, the natural world has borne the brunt of our progress, moreso now than ever before. We are waking up as a civilisation, but it remains to be seen how successfully.

A terrific idea for a coin series, but one we’d imagine quite difficult to bring to life, Allcollect nevertheless had a go in 2021 with a beautiful silver coin featuring the Great Barrier Reef. That coin had a coloured image of the life found in the reef, while the antique finished obverse showed us the damage we were doing to it. Now they’re back with a second issue in the same vein.

This time, the ‘Nature in Danger’ series hits closer to home, with our beautiful meadowland in the spotlight. So close to our homes in many cases, and widely spread around the world, they’re home to a dazzling variety of mammals, birds and invertebrates, particularly. The reverse face is beautifully coloured, using an extensive palette, and well graduated tonally. This is certainly no splash job, but a well crafted view, lushly brought to lfe.

The obverse again shows us the impact of man, in this case through mass commercial farming, and factory pollution. We all understand the need for the former, and in many parts of the world, things are improving rapidly, with its impact being minimised. The latter still needs considerable work, and the coin vista makes that quite clear. It’s a stark reminder that what we have comes with a price higher than we imagine.

It’s a beautiful coin, but at a kilogram in weight, and with a mintage of just 99 pieces, not one most will ever see, hence we felt it very worthy of coverage. Perhaps a five-ounce version might be in order in the future. If you have the budget for this one, we can’t see you being disappointed with it, right down to the quality packaging. An excellent offering from the European producer.
