Caribbean EC8 bullion coin programme reaches its penultimate release

Now on its penultimate release, Scottsdales eight-coin EC8 progamme hops on the seaplane from Anguilla and lands in Saint Vincent & the Grenadines. A skip away from nature this time with the depiction of a landing seaplane taking pride of place on the reverse (the obverse is common to the series). As always, the design is the same across the different formats.

The bullion coin comes as a 1oz 0.999 silver (25,000 mintage) and a 1oz 0.9999 gold (2,500), with the boxed and certified proof coloured coins topping out at a 2,500 mintage in silver, and 500 in gold. The bullion variants ship in capsules on customized Scottsdale Mint branded skin boards of five, although dealers will sell them individually. The Gold “Nature Island” BU coins will ship in Scottsdale Mint’s Certi-Lock® packaging. You can see the whole series to date in our Bullion Profile of the range.  The last coin to come will be the Saint Lucia Flamingo and we’d expect that to arrive in the next few weeks.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

Scottsdale Mint, in partnership with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (“ECCB”), is pleased to announce an historic, first-of-its-kind gold and silver bullion and commemorative coin program – the “EC8”. The EC8 program will consist of four coins minted in 2018 on behalf of each of the eight Caribbean island members that comprise the ECCB – Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.  The ECCB is the official issuer of the Eastern Caribbean Dollar – the Currency of the EC8 2018 Coin Program. These coins are legal tender in the territories of all eight members that comprise the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

The 2018 EC8 St. Vincent & the Grenadines coin depicts a Seaplane landing in the Caribbean Sea.   Imagine an island chain uncluttered by tourist exploitation, with white-sand beaches on deserted islands, sky-blue water gently lapping the shores, and barely a soul around. The seaplane is a common method of transportation as SVG alone has 32 islands and cays to explore. This multi-island Caribbean nation offers a combination of rainforest eco-adventures, scuba diving, classic Caribbean powder-white sand beaches, luxury accommodation and yachting or sailing adventures.

ST. VINCENT & THE GRENADINES

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a country in the Lesser Antilles island arc, in the southern portion of the Windward Islands, which lies in the West Indies at the southern end of the eastern border of the Caribbean Sea where the latter meets the Atlantic Ocean. The sovereign state is also frequently known simply as Saint Vincent. Its 389 km² territory consists of the main island of Saint Vincent and the northern two-thirds of the Grenadines, which are a chain of smaller islands stretching south from Saint Vincent Island to Grenada. Most of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines lies within the Hurricane Alley.

To the north of Saint Vincent lies Saint Lucia and to the east is Barbados. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a densely populated country for its size (over 300 inhabitants/km2) with approximately 109,643 inhabitants. Kingstown is the capital and main port. Saint Vincent has a French and British colonial history, and is now part of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, CARICOM, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

The island of Saint Vincent is volcanic and includes little level ground. The windward side of the island is very rocky and steep, while the leeward side has more sandy beaches and bays. Saint Vincent’s highest peak is La Soufrière volcano at 1,234 m (4,049 ft). (Source: Wikipedia)
