Trident bullion from Barbados and Scottsdale Mint gets a 5k run of privy marked coins

2018 BARBADOS TRIDENT PINEAPPLE PRIVY

Late last year, Scottsdale Mint re-issued for 2018 the Barbados Trident bullion coin in gold and silver using the same design that had adorned it on its debut the year before. With a 30,000 mintage in silver and 5,000 in gold, it was towards the lower mintage range of bullion coins issued last year.

The coin has today reappeared with one of the ‘love them or hate them’ privy marks on it. Only coming to market in silver form, the coin is basically identical to the standard issue from last November, but with the addition of a small pineapple privy mark on the right-hand side of the reverse face. It’s an unusual issue and not one that seems to be tied to a specific event, so perhaps Scottsdale are testing the market to see what interest there is.

Whatever the case, this is a neat enough coin and the pineapple is certainly something a little different from the norm, so if privy marks are your thing, keep your eye out for this one. Premiums will be a little higher than the standard coin, but not excessively so. Available to order now.
