Somali Elephant 15th anniversary bullion coin range debuts in limited numbers

An annual fixture in the bullion coin world for fifteen years, the Somali Elephant, or African Ounce, has increased in popularity to the point it’s considered one of the crowd today. A consistent artistic style over its lifespan has led to a good looking series and one that shows no sign of slowing down.

To celebrate fifteen years of issuance, a special ‘Jubilee’ design is being issued in limited numbers. Combining the elephant from the debut 2004 launch and the one from the latest 2018 coin, this special does a great job of encapsulating what the series is all about. The obverse design – the emblem of Somalia – is the same as the standard coin.

Three variants are available and all are an ounce in weight. The silver coin will be the most numerous at 15,000 units, with the platinum at 1,500 and the gold at just 150. The gold issue differs in being boxed and suppled with a certificate of authenticity. APMEX apparently have exclusive distribution rights for North America, but other dealers do have them in Europe, for example. Available to order now, they should start to ship from the end of this month.
