Silver Swan bullion coin transforms into a beautiful limited, five-ounce high-relief proof version

One of the more recent additions to the expanded canon of nature-themed bullion coins emanating from the Perth Mint, the Silver Swan came out last year to great acclaim. A classic side-on view of the Perth Mint’s mascot, it was hugely popular and generated a frenzied purchasing period that saw a continual stream of price rises. Fast forward to 2018 and the theme continued with a new family look at this elegant bird. A proof one-ounce coin came out as well, but this year we go one better.

The five-ounce high-relief has always been our favourite version of the Perth Mints many bullion coin releases, and this one is no exception. Taking the original look and increasing the relief and definition, has resulted in the definitive issue of this attractive design. Because of the 11mm thickness and double concave strike, the coin only just breaks the 50 mm diameter mark, but it’s a trade off we’d accept. Supplied in a grey coin box inside a themed shipper, a c.o.a. is enclosed. This one is exclusive to APMEX and will start to ship later next week (17th). At $449.99 USD, the coin is priced at a similar level to most of these Perth issues, but the mintage of 500 is pretty tight (the Wedge-Tailed Eagle is at 2,500 for example). Available to order now.

REVERSE: depicts the iconic Swan and her cygnet gracefully swimming on the water’s surface designed by Jennifer McKenna. The design also includes the description “The 5 oz 9999 Australian Silver Swan” and The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark.

OBVERSE: depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date and the monetary denomination.
