Norse Goddesses from the Perth Mint continues with Frigg, the second of three for 2017

The second of a trilogy of Norse Goddesses coins to be released through 2017 by the Perth Mint, Frigg is actually the 11th coin to debut in the Gods & Goddesses range. First launched in 2014 when Zeus swept into the marketplace and caused a frenzy, the series has quietened down considerably since, especially with the growth of some very impressive competition. It remains well liked, however.

Struck in two ounces of silver, now 0.9999 fineness, these high-relief, rimless coins are beautifully done and superbly packaged. They sell for $199.00 AUD and have a mintage of 2,000 units. We’ve added this coin to our ongoing Coin Series Profile of this range and you can read more about Frigg and see the other coins that make up the four sub-series over there. Available now.

2017 NORSE GODDESSES ‘FRIGG’ ANTIQUED SILVER COIN

MINTS DESCRIPTION

According to ancient Norse mythology, Frigg was the goddess of love, marriage, destiny, the sky and weaving. She is said to have weaved the clouds to control the weather, and the threads of fate to determine the destiny of men and gods alike. Frigg is also depicted as a goddess of fertility, household management, motherhood and domestic arts. She is considered the protector of birthing women and was called upon by those who were dying to help them transition to the after-life.

Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver and issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu. The reverse of the coin depicts Frigg sitting on Odin’s high seat cradling a newborn baby in one arm and holding a rose quartz pendant in the other. Also featured is a falcon, white candles and woven threads. The inscription FRIGG and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark also feature in the design.

The obverse of the coin portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2017 year-date.

To capture the depth and detail of the design, the coin is struck in high relief to a rimless format, and has been individually ‘antiqued’ to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin may vary.

The coin is housed in a prestigious square wooden display case with stunning engraved detail on its lid. The coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate and packaged in a themed shipper.
