NEW RELEASE: PERTH MINT COMMEMORATES MELBOURNE – ST.PETERSBURG LINK

2013 ANDA SHOW SPECIAL SISTER CITIES COIN

Released as a special for the Melbourne ANDA coin show, this coin has upon it’s reverse an innovative lenticular image showing a scene from Melbourne and a scene from St. Petersburg when the coin is moved. Available initially as a show special only, it’s now available from the Perth Mint website. The mintage has been set at a maximum of 2,000 pieces and comes with the usual Perth Mint box and certificate.

To celebrate the unique Sister City relationship between Melbourne in Australia and St Petersburg in Russia, The Perth Mint has released a limited edition coin portraying an iconic landmark located in each stunning metropolis.

PROOF QUALITY 99.9% PURE SILVER

Each coin is meticulously struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in superb proof quality.

INNOVATIVE LENTICULAR REVERSE DESIGN IN COLOUR

The coin’s reverse features a coloured image of an iconic landmark in each of the Sister Cities. The front façade of Flinders Street Station in Melbourne is depicted with a passing tram. The Admiralty building of St Petersburg, which faces the Neva River, is also shown with Isaac Cathedral in the background.

With the use of lenticular lenses, these images transform from one to the other as the coin is moved. The design is headed by the inscription SISTER CITIES and surrounded by decorative bands inspired by the architecture of each landmark. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark is also incorporated into the design.

AUSTRALIAN LEGAL TENDER

Issued as Australian legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by a checked border, the 2013 year-date and the monetary denomination.
