2018 CLADE MORTIS CARVED SKULL

We first showed you some early renders of the third in the Mint of Poland’s ‘Carved Skulls’ series back in early September, but we now have a much better image of what we think is the best in the series to date, along with an image of the packaging.

Titled ‘Clade Mortis’ (Defeat Death), it’s a superb blend of human skull and reptilian life. Not a normal skull, this one has an enlarged frontal bone, much like those associated with the early Mesoamerican civilisations, A gilded snake coils its way down the vertical plate into the space between the eye sockets, and the background is filled with a snakeskin pattern.

We like this one a lot. A big dollop of relief for a one-ounce silver coin, a striking image on a complex background and struck by the Mint of Poland, this one is unlikely to disappoint. It should be available in the latter half of November and is being distributed by Coins Boutique and Pela-Coins, although will be available more widely. The mintage is 666 pieces.
