Here’s the third coin in German coin producer JVP Investment Coins ambitious new 24-coin series of silver coins called Vintage Mini Posters’. The first two coins featuring an old American railroad called The Chief, and a travel poster extolling the virtues of Canada. This latest coin depicts a poster advertising a Parisian nightclub called ‘The Black Cat’ and is an attractive design. it appears to be deeper struck than the first two coins, although that could be just the way the artwork is coloured.
Further coins are expected to be released approximately every two weeks through 2015 and will cover a variety of subjects, from old sporting designs, through entertainment and on to travel, the subject that will form the bulk of the series.
Each release will maintain the same format and it’s a ½ oz of 0.999 silver, which despite the relatively low weight remains a very healthy 27 x 47 mm rectangle in size. That will clearly give the artwork plenty of space to shine. Each design will be unaltered from the original artwork except for the coins purity. With only 1,000 of each design being struck, JVP aren’t flooding the market with them either.
As yet, we’re still waiting for JVP to announce pricing or availability and they’re just showing the coins as a preview for the moment. With some great packaging and the retro subject matter, we think the series has a lot of appeal as well. LE CHAT NOIR
Posters are a part of our world culture. This is especially true for the past 200 years. In the beginning, posters were designed to attract people’s focus and attention, however; in modern culture, this craft has turned itself into a respected and highly valued art form. It was our goal to gather the most beautiful posters, which have been created throughout history and commemorate them on a series of precious metal coins.
The miniature variant has the perfect size, since the original sizes are just taking up to much space. This way you can collect all of these special artworks!
REVERSE: The reverse captures an original vintage poster of the famous Le Chat Noir. The image depicted on the coin is not altered, so it is a replica of the original poster. The Le Chat Noir is the #3 of 24 posters to be released in 2015.
Le Chat Noir was a 19th century entertainment establishment in the bohemian Montmartre district of Paris. It is thought to be the first modern cabaret, a nightclub where visitors were being entertained by a variety show on stage. The poster was created by Théophile Steinlen in 1896.
About the Artist: Théophile Steinlen was a Swiss-born French Art Nouveau painter and printmaker. He started out by painting rural landscapes flowers. After he got introduced to the artistic crowd at the Le Chat Noir, he began creating posters and regular contributions for various magazines.
OBVERSE: The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue and the denomination of the coin.
PRESENTATION: The Vintage Mini Posters – Le Chat Noir silver coin comes in an awesome blister case, which is doing a remarkable job in staging this very special poster coin. The front flap of the booklet has a “cut out” section, displaying the coin even if the booklet is closed. When closed, the image printed onto the blister features an extension of the original poster. Every issue of the series has its own number: The Le Chat Noir is #3 of the series. The number is also printed onto the blister, making this special series a true collectors item. The Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the blister case!
As a serious collector, I have purchased and waited for delivery of “pre sale” coins in the past. However never to this extent.
I have been waiting for 10 months for 2 of the first released coins in this series from JVP. Yes, you read correctly TEN months !
Cannot get the reasons from them (JVP), only the promises of them coming from a new release date to the next new release date ….to the next and so on.
Either the Pamp Mint is having issues with production or the company making the packaging is the problem or possibly some sort of a financial issue could be the reason, but non the less, it has become somewhat ridiculous to be frank.
A very valid point. We did see these initially at the 2015 World Money Fair last February, and met the team there again this year where they had samples of the first eight coins if I remember correctly. We were told they were 6-8 weeks away which would put the release date as any time now. The Black Cat coin here is really nice, but like you we just want to see them on sale. We’ll see what we can find out.
