Making its debut back in June 2013, the Young Wildlife series kicked off with a really superb Tiger cub coin that had quite a beautiful design and offered a fresh look at this magnificent animal. All went quiet and despite being told it was to be a new series of coins, nothing appeared in 2014.

Well now the 2014 coin has finally appeared on the market, better late than never as they say, and it’s another really nice design. This time around it’s the seal pup and it maintains the style of the first coin with fresh, clean artwork and an absence of unnecessary adornments, i.e. no colour or bulging gem eyeballs.

As before it’s limited to 1,000 pieces, and as before there’s a certificate of authenticity but no box. We’ll find out if we can, of there are plans to continue the series for 2015 and when we might see the next coin, because frankly, we like these a lot. We don’t know who the designer is, but let’s hope the producer keeps them on board. The obverse carries the Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, just as you’d expect from a Cook Islands coin.

Available at a few European dealers, we think Munzdachs are about the cheapest at €48.90 ($52 USD, £35, $68 AUD). APMEX had the first coin for $93 USD, but the second hasn’t shown up and the price seems heavy. So available to order now.
