The huge ten kilo variant of the Perth Mint’s Rooster silver lunar is now on sale

Despite launching over six months ago, a new addition to the Perth Mint’s well regarded Lunar Series II bullion range is now available for sale. Clocking in at a simply gigantic ten kilos, it’s the largest annual silver bullion coin in the world.

Mintage is limited to a maximum of just 100 pieces, although they’re still minted to order. It’s a pretty cool way to buy a huge chunk of silver and a pretty exclusive one, but the premiums on this 321 oz coin are significantly higher than you’d expect for buying silver ‘in bulk’. At the time of writing, ten kilos of silver is under $6,000 (US), but the price to buy one of these is almost $11,000. That’s a huge markup for what it is, even taking into account the limited mintage.

A huge coin of 220 mm diameter, they’re an imposing sight. In our image above we’ve placed a one ounce version, itself 45.6 mm, right next to this behemoth. The design is exactly as the rest of the silver lunar range with the obvious exception of the denomination ($300 AUD). Outside of a few 10 kg gold lunars that Perth have produced in the past, this is perhaps the ultimate incarnation of this iconic series, but not a great value one. Available to buy shortly.
