HMS Bounty silver bullion coin adds a smaller half-ounce sibling to the range

Last October we reported on a new silver bullion coin sold by US dealer Money Metals Exchange and reportedly produced for them by the NZ Mint. Struck in an ounce of fine 0.999 silver, it was the second silver bullion coin to depict a legend in old maritime circles, the HMS Bounty. Like the first Bounty bullion coin, the one issued by the Cook Islands, this Niue coin has spawned a smaller fractional variant, a half-ounce.

In all major regards this fractional version is identical to its larger brother. The HMS Bounty sailing away inside a compass and radiating lines are exactly as before, just the weight inscription differing for obvious reasons. Likewise the obverse design remains consistent, just the denomination differing, now $1 instead of $2.

Premiums are supposed to remain low on this one, as they were for the one-ounce version, which should help boost its popularity with stackers now overwhelmed with choice. As we said before, a decent design, struck by a well-regarded mint, issued for a Commonwealth country, and with a very low premium. What’s not to like?
