The historical influence of the lion on Ukrainian monuments is showcased on latest silver coin

Fauna in Cultural monuments of Ukraine is an attractive silver coin series now in its second year. With three coins launched in 2016 and a coin that debuted just last month, this new release is the fifth to appear to date. A sixth coin will appear next month and feature the influence of the snake. This will be the last coin for 2017 in this series.

Taking the subject of animals in monumental art throughout Ukrainian history, the series has showcased art from the 11th century CE, all the way back into prehistory. The last coin chose the Bull as its subject, this new one, the Lion. Another fine design, the subjects chosen to appear on each face date from the Middle Ages. The obverse has an area that’s been selectively gilded, the reverse remaining free of modification.

Struck in ½oz of sterling (0.925) silver, each comes boxed with a certificate of authenticity. The mintage remains at 4,000 pieces. The previous trio from 2016 featured the Peacock, the Wolf and the Deer. The coin should ship from the end of April.
