Ever growing selection of modern coins from Oceania collected in comprehensive new catalogue

While sites like AgAuNEWS try their best to cover as many coins as possible, the ever increasing numbers of modern numismatics entering the marketplace make that more and more difficult. Even though we produce our Coin Series Profiles that detail some of the less known or most popular coin series out there, we can but scratch the surface of the myriad options out there. A good reference guide would be a handy thing, even for us here.

One of the best and most enabling things about modern precious metal numismatics is the cool idea that many small countries around the world allow independent mints to issue coins in their name. Without such small island nations as Niue, Tuvalu, Tokelau and the like, many of the most impressive coins of recent years simply wouldn’t exist. Brilliant numismatics like Legends of Asgard, the Fortuna Redux and Tiffany Art would never have seen the light of day. Can you ever imagine the US Mint putting out coins like these?

About the only downside to this is keeping track of all the new choices and Lukasz Rosanowski’s new book ‘Grand Catalog of Australian and Oceanian Coins 200-2017’ looks set to be of huge assistance in doing just that. Covering 21st century coins from Australia, New Zealand and all the small island states in this Pacific region, it will be an invaluable guide for many, especially the hardcore collector.

Comprising images and specifications for around 8,500 coins spread over 350 A4 pages, this catalog took Lukasz three years to compile and we know from esxperience how frustrating getting some of this information can be. Professionally produced, the catalog will sell for €49 / US$52 / AUD$69 and will be available in March. Well worth a look we think. Available from Mennica Gdanska or from Powercoin, although we have no doubt that availability will spread.
