Along with antique finish ancient gods coins, domed coins seem to have maintained an impressive quality level across the board. A broad and innovative selection has appeared over the last few years as more and more mints master the complexities of minting them. From astronomy to sport, there’s hardly been a dud amongst them. The main reason we believe, is the careful choice of subject. Great ideas are crucial to the success of any coins, and this new one certainly fits the bill.

A hugely popular comic superhero, made all the more so by the recent wave of movies, Captain America is a perfect shoe-in for a birthday celebration. At 75 years old, this birthday demanded something more than just another coloured silver coin. Depicting Captain America’s ultra-iconic shield, the domed strike is a perfect facsimile, brightly coloured, and clean of anything except the Marvel copyright. The obverse features the Fijjian emblem, along with inscriptions showing the issuer, denomination, composition and date. It’s a standard obverse design, the theming being restricted to the reverse face.

Struck in two ounces of fine silver, this has the benefit of increasing the diameter of the coin up past 50mm, a welcome boost. Packaging looks very stylish, much more subtle than the Avengers sets that the same producer has released to date. The innovative fine silver certificate is present again. Mintage is set at a maximum of 7,500 and the price at $179.00 USD. A great coin that fans of both domed coins and Captain America will appreciate, we believe.

For those unfamiliar with Captain America, he first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover dated March 1941) from Timely Comics, a predecessor of Marvel Comics. He was designed and developed by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Meant to boost wartime morale, the ultra-patriotic supersoldier fought the Axis powers throughout the Second World War. Wearing a uniform clearly based on elements of the US flag, he carries an almost indestructible disc-shaped shield made from an experimental alloy of steel and the fictional vibranium that nobody has been able to replicate. The character is the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a weak man enhanced to exceed human limits by an experimental serum.

Available to order now, the coin will ship from the last week of August.
